This week the family newspaper feature “For the Kid in You” features the Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon National Park celebrates its 100 birthday in 2019, but the natural wonder is much older.
The Colorado River began cutting through the Colorado plateau about 5 to 6 million years ago, geologists say. It created a canyon 277 miles long and a mile deep. The colored layers of stone and massive scale of the Grand Canyon amazed and enchanted both ancient and modern visitors.
